about Us

looking back
In 1987 our founder, Frank Absher, began collecting radio history, mainly tapes from radio stations. From the beginning Frank worked with the St. Louis Public Library to store, catalogue and preserve the tapes. He then created the St. Louis Radio Hall of Fame, working with members of the radio community to nominate and elect Hall of Fame members, people recognized for their significant contributions to St. Louis-area media.
Within three years Frank expanded the Halls of Fame to Television and Print and later to Advertising and Public Relations. In 2010 he created a 501(c)3 organization and asked respected members of the media community in St. Louis to serve on its board. Thus began the St. Louis Media History Foundation.
The Foundation’s Board of Directors is proud to present this updated and refreshed portal to the history of St. Louis-area media. This website and our collection are unlike any other efforts in the United States, and your donations have made it all possible.
This work has been a labor of love, culminating in what you see on this site.
