In 1985, Bill left his position at Gardner Advertising to become president of Simmons Durham Advertising. The agency soon was developing ads that were seen all over the world. Durham’s strong leadership of the local shop oversaw phenomenal growth in billings. His peers said that although he was not a creative man or a writer, he truly was able to understand clients’ needs. Bill remained at the agency until 2001, at which time it was sold to Arnold, Worldwide.
