In 2004, Jessica founded and served as the president of the nonprofit Gateway Media Literacy Partners, whose mission is to promote literacy and empower citizens to think critically about media coverage. The organization was also purposed with developing literacy skills in children whose educational needs had been underserved or overlooked. As a board member of the Gateway Journalism Review, Jessica helped organize that group’s primary fundraiser, the annual First Amendment Celebration, which drew leading media figures from across the country, continuing her support of and devotion to media literacy.
