The Crisis was the fourth newspaper published in Madison county. Its founder was Samuel S. Brooks. The date of the first number was April 14, 1830. It was a four column paper, published every Saturday in Edwardsville. Thirty-four numbers were published. The name was then changed to the Illinois Advocate.
