Newmark Judy

Inducted 2024

A native St. Louisan, Judy joined the St. Louis Post-Dispatch staff, fresh out of Bryn Mawr, in 1975. She was a reporter, a parenting columnist, beauty editor, fashion editor and editor of the PD magazine. But her most enduring contribution was as a theater critic. She shared duties with, and later succeeded, the late Joe Pollock as the paper’s primary reviewer, interviewing everyone from Mel Brooks to Lin-Manuel Miranda. In addition to writing the paper’s 10-month-long definitive series on the history of the Muny, she also created the annual visual guide to the Shakespeare Festival, began the annual “Judy” awards and co-founded the St. Louis Theatre Guild. Judy retired in 2018.
