Normal "Tweed" Webb

Normal “Tweed” Webb was considered the most prominent voice for Black baseball in St. Louis at a time before Major League Baseball’s teams were integrated. A former player in St. Louis’ African-American Tandy League, he became the official scorer for the Negro League All-Star game. It was this experience that landed him a position as sports editor, columnist and reporter for the St. Louis Argus, where his writing helped build a strong sense of community pride and interest in the Black community for their baseball teams. His influence nationally is credited with getting St. Louis’ James “Cool Papa” Bell into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
