As a youngster, listening to Cardinal games with his father, Fred knew he wanted to work at KMOX, and would stand in front of the mirror practicing his news broadcasts. In 1982, after graduating from the University of Missouri – Columbia, Fred got his wish – he was hired at the station. During his 40-plus years at KMOX, he was as a reporter, editor and executive producer, and won numerous awards, including an Edward R. Murrow Award for outstanding continuous coverage of the clergy sex abuse scandal; a Wilbur Award for religious coverage; an Angel Award and a Missouri Broadcasters Award for best religion news coverage. He was also the recipient of the 2017 Excellence in Communications Award from St. Louis Archbishop Robert Carlson. He currently hosts the weekend show “Health Matters.”
