The CBC grad played eight years for the Cardinals, including on the 1964 and 1967 championship clubs. He switched to the broadcast booth in 1972, joining Hall of Famer Jack Buck for play-by-play coverage of the Cardinals for KMOX. After Buck’s death, he became the Cardinals lead announcer from 2002 to 2021, with John Rooney becoming his permanent broadcast partner in 2006. Mike also telecast Cardinal and MLB games with fellow 2025 Hall of Fame inductee Jay Randolph and was a backup analyst behind Joe Garagiola and Tony Kubek for NBC’s Game of the Week. Mike earned an Emmy award in 1985 and is a member of the St. Louis and Missouri Sports Halls of Fame. He was named Missouri “Sportscaster of the Year” in 2002 and 2003.
