Joe was raised in St. Louis and began his broadcast career in 1989 as an undergraduate at Indiana University Bloomington. Early on, he called play-by-play for the St. Louis Cardinal’s minor league team, the Louisville Redbirds, and called the Triple A All-Star game in 1989. His next move was to KMOX Radio where in 1991, he called St. Louis Cardinals games while his father worked national telecasts. His broadcast career took off when he worked for Fox Sports, from its 1994 inception through 2022, and included roles as lead play-by-play announcer for the network’s National Football League and Major League Baseball coverage. As a lead play-by-play announcer for USGA, as well as the NFL and MLB games, Joe earned numerous awards, including 10 Sports Emmy Awards in the 1990s and 2000s. In 2022, Joe moved to ESPN, where he was the lead play-by-play announcer for Monday Night. He won baseball’s Ford C. Frick Award and entered the Baseball Hall of Fame broadcast wing in 2026.
