Julius Hunter is a prominent figure in St. Louis TV history, starting his broadcast career at KSD Radio and KSDK-TV in 1970 as a reporter, later becoming weekend anchor and news director. In 1975, he moved to KMOX-TV (later KMOV-TV), becoming the first African-American to anchor a prime-time newscast in St. Louis. After leaving television in 2002, he pursued community roles at St. Louis University, served on the St. Louis Police Board, authored seven books, and founded the Julius K. Hunter and Friends African-American Research Collection at the St. Louis County Library. His contributions to broadcasting, community engagement, and African American heritage earned him recognition as a “Living Legend” by National Association of Black Journalist-St. Louis in 2024.
