Glenn Tintera – 2013

With numerous national awards under his belt, Glenn Tintera rose through the ranks of the local D’Arcy agency, starting as a research analyst in 1966 at age 34, retiring as executive vice president and manager of the St. Louis operation. He was a driving force behind the introduction of client Anheuser-Busch’s products into international markets. Under his watch, the local office developed their “This Bud’s For You” and “Go-Getters Go Ozark” campaigns.

It was the “Belief Dynamics” system of research, which he was instrumental in developing and implementing, that helped give D’Arcy a big edge over its competitors. Glenn Tintera was named Ninth District Advertising Person of the Year in 1991 by the American Advertising Federation. In retirement, he taught advertising at his alma mater, Washington University.

Puckett, Steve

Steve Puckett – Legacy

Steve Puckett worked in the field of advertising for 38 years, including efforts at four leading St. Louis agencies: DMB&B, Gardner, Brighton and Vinyard & Lee. He ran his own agency, The Puckett Group, which dominated the St. Louis advertising awards scene during its existence. Steve was known among his peers for his intensity and uncompromising creativity.

Rawlings, John

John Rawlings – 2017

John Rawlings had many years of writing and editing experience under his belt when he arrived in St. Louis to take a position with The Sporting News. He spent 18 years as Editorial Director of the weekly that had become the nation’s premier sports publication, and during that time, he guided TSN and Major League Baseball to their initial forays toward a presence on the Internet. Both efforts were huge successes. The Sporting News website became one of the most popular sports-oriented sites in the world and MLB.com regularly registered four million viewers per day.

Rains, Rob and Sally

Rob and Sally Rains – 2017

Rob and Sally Rains pooled their knowledge of sports and media and essentially became a driving force in the world of St. Louis sports media. Between them, the couple produced numerous books, authored hundreds of articles and made appearances on all local sports media. Sally was a co-founder of SportsRadio, a network of 120 stations. Rob teamed with Andy Van Slyke on a national baseball podcast. And the couple established STLSportsPage.com and the SportsBlast electronic newsletter. Their web presence became one of the premier independent sports resources in the region.  

Dorsey, Jack

Jack Dorsey – 2016

The first inductee into the Digital Media section of our hall of fame, Jack Dorsey was honored for his contribution to digital social media as the co-inventer of Twitter in 2006. The Bishop DuBourg High School graduate’s name became synonymous with the website, which was such a major factor in digital media that its name, Twitter, became a widely used verb in the English language.

Thomas, Ben

Ben Thomas – 2019

Ben Thomas was the founder, editor and do-everything guy at the St. Louis Evening Whirl. He left his job as entertainment editor at the St. Louis Argus in 1937 to start his own weekly entertainment paper for the Black community, the Night Whirl. As promotion for that paper, he initiated the Colored Mayors’ Association, hosted beauty pageants and interviewed visiting celebrities. When he broke a local crime story that the town’s other papers wouldn’t print, he sold over 50,000 copies and immediately changed the name to the Evening Whirl, concentrating on creatively written, sensational crime stories.
