Kunkel’s Musical Review was founded by the Kunkel Brothers – Charles and Jacob – in September, 1878. It was a small-sized, twenty-two page monthly. J. Temple was its editor. The following year it was enlarged, and I.D. Foulon became its editor. He was succeeded by Thomas M. Hyland. The paper continued to grow, and by the end of the century each issue contained as much as fifty-six pages of music – full sheet music size – which was of a high standard, noted for its typographical correctness, careful fingering phrases and ossias,
